Your past is not your future… Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD) develops after a stressful event or an exceptionally threatening and serious trauma, the resulting symptoms are recurrent dreams, ‘triggers’ that set off memories and flashbacks, insomnia, depression, intense distress and a feeling of being unable to move on with your life as a result.
People can suffer with this for years due to the memory of the triggering event not being processed correctly by the brain which is why time alone does not necessarily heal.
Trauma in childhood keeps the person stuck and they experience the emotions as if it is still happening today, this has a serious knock on effect into the perception of day to day life.
The BLAST technique actively moves and re-processes the memory into the right side of the brain, allowing the person to move on and experiencing a significant reduction of symptoms, resulting in an almost magical feeling of relief.
I use a combination of BLAST (the latest version of EMDR -Eye Movement Desensitising & Reprocessing) NLP and hypnosis to work with PTSD and its related symptoms.
BLAST / EMDR are very powerful techniques which are used to treat a wide variety of issues from serious trauma such as rape, sexual abuse, physical abuse, murder and assault to combating ‘everyday’ issues such as food cravings, anxiety and phobias.
People are always astonished when we say that working with Phobias is one of our favourite areas. This is purely and simply because most phobias are cured very rapidly within 1-2 sessions. I use a combination of BLAST & Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques to get rid of your phobia. It doesn’t matter where it originated from, but if it causing you a problem in your day-to-day life then maybe its time to wave goodbye to it!
I have dealt with and cured many phobias and it is interesting to see what lengths people have gone to, in order to avoid facing their fears.
I had a recent client who who, every year his family would fly off to Spain on their annual holiday and he then met them 3 days later…by car! He has driven across France and Spain to meet his family for 12 years; purely because his phobia for flying was so extreme (even when dosed up with enough sedative to tranquilize a horse!)
He was unable to face his ultimate fear of being on an aeroplane for the 2.5 hr flight. His solution was to drive across France and Spain which not only was costly but resulted in him wasting a week of his holiday in the car.
He was very nervous about the process as even thinking about flying brought him out in a cold sweat and he was visibly shaken just talking about it, so for him even to come and see me took a lot of courage.
However within 2 sessions, I had used a variety of techniques which reprocessed and desensitised his feelings towards the phobia and applied other strategies to analyse and neutralise his fears.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating so they say, or in his case the flying… 7 days later I received a text message saying that all was well but the next time he would bring his own sandwich as the in-flight meal was very disappointing!
What old fear do you have that its perhaps time to let go of?
